Maddie Healey
Welcome to my portfolio! My name is Maddie – I’m a 19 year old undergraduate studying Biomedical Engineering with a concentration in cell and tissue engineering/biomechanics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. I expect to receive my degree in 2025 and plan to pursue a master’s degree in a related field after. I am ambitious and always driven to learn more about what I love. This platform, while a work in progress, has given me a great opportunity to not only express to you my life outside of my academics and professional skills, but yet another outlet for me to learn!
My Life Outside of Academics
Education
My Experiences . . .
Society of Women Engineers Treasurer
I maintain order for all executive members by effectively utilizing critical thinking to budget, fund and bookeep all transactions. Being new to the position, I am ready to adapt and learn to be able to develop my professional skills in this new area. This organization and my fellow executive members continue to inspire me everyday, and I can’t wait to see what the future will hold.
Biomedical Engineering Society Member
Biomedical Engineering Society is the perfect outlet for me to be surrounded by people who understand the grit and determination that comes with engineering. An opportunity to connect with people from my major and learn from their experiences has truly made my education and social life at WPI better than before. I know have a strong support system of amazing female biomedical engineering majors who I get to journey throughout all my classes with, giving me not only a great group of friends, but the best people to collaborate with.
Academic Tutor
After struggling in my transition to WPI and working out to find success, I wanted to give back to the students who I know felt the same as I did. Through the Academic Resources Center, I tutored students in chemistry and math, emphasizing on explaining topics to them in the basic terms that makes most sense to me. I wanted to show undergraduate students that being a genius isn’t what brings you academic success, its the ability to work hard and put yourself first to get the help you needs in topics that might be more challenging. Watching a student have that infamous lightbulb moment when I can tell they were struggling makes me want to keep learning and giving back always.
My Experiences . . .
Jazz Band First Chair Saxophone
While academics and learning have always been a top priority to me, the music falls closely behind. In high school, I worked hard as a jazz musician after falling in love with the genre of music. Music was an amazing outlet for me to make great friends, take a much-needed break from school, and develop my mind in more ways than one. I received the Neil Armstrong Jazz Award, an award that recognizes outstanding musical achievement and an incredible dedication to the program. After receiving this award, I have become more motivated than ever to be keep music in my life.
